STARKVILLE, Miss.ā€”A °®°®Ö±²„ College of Arts and Sciences publication is this yearā€™s winner of the Summit Award, presented annually by the Mississippi Library Commission for ā€œexceptional publicationā€ value.

Mississippi Quarterly: The Journal of Southern Cultures, issue 75.1, No. 1, was selected as Best Publication by a Large Agency. The award is given to two state agencies in recognition of exceptional publicationsā€”one honoring a large agency, more than 100 employees, and one honoring a small agency, less than 100 employees.

Recognized as one of the premier journals in the field of Southern studies,Ā Mississippi QuarterlyĀ publishes scholarly essays, interviews and book reviews on literature, history, film and other subjects. The refereed academic journal was founded at °®°®Ö±²„ in 1948.

ā€œOver the years,Ā Mississippi QuarterlyĀ has earned a reputation for excellence in academic publishing by maintaining rigorous scholarly and editorial standards. It is gratifying to receive recognition for this work from the Mississippi Library Commission, a respected and vital organization in our state,ā€ said Ted Atkinson, associate professor of English and editor.

Atkinson is joined on the editorial team by Laura West, managing editor, and Robert M. West, associate editor and head of °®°®Ö±²„ā€™s Department of Classical and Modern Languages and Literatures.

The Mississippi Library Commission collects, catalogs and maintains an archival collection of over 60,000 Mississippi state agency-issued publications as part of the State Depository Program.
